2015 Abu Dhabi GP F1: Nico Rosberg wins the last race of the year
Sunday has closed the Formula 1 season with the running of the race GP of Abu Dhabi in which there has been no surprise since Mercedes has signed a double victory. Nico Rosberg who started from pole has achieved a new victory ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the German finishes the year with three straight wins that came too late.
The third podium position was for Kimi Raikkonen with Ferrari has been ranked ahead of Sebastian Vettel who rallied from late position. Carlos Sainz was the best Spanish, but has been on the verge of the points being 11th. Fernando Alonso was 17th after a touch on the exit and Roberto Merhi was last with modest Manor F1 Team.
The nighttime images of Yas Marina Circuit again be the most spectacular of a career that had little emotion in contention for victory but was entertained as the fight for the remaining points positions. Rosberg started from pole and did a lot better than Hamilton came close to losing position with Perez output. Rosberg came to the first corner as the leader and Hamilton remained in the second position. From there the Mercedes headed to victory and nobody can not even get close to them.
Between Rosberg and Hamilton fight there was not much except the last step before the box of English increased its pace to try to get closer to his teammate. Rosberg increased the pace at the situation and assured first place smoothly achieving another triumph. His final year has been fantastic but we left wondering what if Hamilton had not been champion in a while and would have needed more points because when Rosberg’s needed to beat again and again.
Beyond the fight for the victory itself was some interesting battles. Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso tried to trace since turned off the lights but the German was luckier than the Spanish as Felipe Nasr touched him and the McLaren-Honda finished hitting with Pastor Maldonado had to leave . Alonso had to enter the pits to change his wing and then meet a controversial drive-through by this accident so the race was an ordeal for him.
Carlos Sainz made a good start and got to climb to seventh place after two good overtaking. The problem for the Spanish was that when the use of DRS allowed succumbed to the pressure of the Williams and Lotus. The Spanish also had a problem in their first pass through the pit lane where he lost several seconds. Still it came with options to score the last three laps in which he was just behind Kvyat.
The Russian held the thrust of Spanish and also came from behind Grosjean got rid of both Kvyat as Alonso up to 9th place, leaving the Russian in the 10th and the 11th Sainz to finish the season has been good for him though not as much as it could have been for the numerous mechanical problems.
Behind the Ferraris Mercedes stood. The comeback came up Raikkonen Vettel who had to pass because it had more pace. Raikkonen’s third place assured him fourth place in the championship ahead of Valtteri Bottas who ruined his career for unsafe release from his team that took him to touch with Button in the pit lane. English was ranked 12th with McLaren-Honda.
With this race closes the second consecutive year of overwhelming dominance of Mercedes that has added 703 points. Now it’s time to work in factories and hopefully have equipment that can bring its potential to the German team in 2016 to have a more exciting championship. This was the final qualifying at Yas Marina.
