ATP Saint Petersburg 2016: Wawrinka Zverev and finalists; ATP Metz 2016: finalists Thiem and Pouille
The first seeded tournament St. Petersburg Swiss Stan Wawrinka is impusor fourth, castellonense Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets and qualified for the final by the German youth Alexander Zverev (5) surprised the Czech Tomas Berdych (3).
On the other side tournament played on indoor track in Metz, the title is played by the first and third favorites, Austrian Dominik Thiem and French Lucas Pouille that eliminated the former champion Gilles Simon and Belgian David Goffin respectively.
In the first meeting between Wawrinka and Roberto, things were very even, blow by blow in the first set. Each had three break balls for but none was capitalized. The tiebreaker where parity remained they would leave. Wawrinka was more aggressive and the set 7-6 (10-8) won. So there would last Castellon resistance because after all was for the US Open champion sealed his ticket to the final with an easy 6-2 in 1 hour 51 minutes.
The other key semifinals took the ascending Alexander Zverev who won for the first time Tomas Berdych after four failed attempts, three of them this season. And the Czech defeated him in Marseille, for the first round of World Group Davis Cup in Germany and in Wimbledon, always with tight markers. This time Zverev 19 years retaliated winning in straight sets 6-4 6-4 in less than an hour and a half saving four breakpoints faced and breaking once sleeve.
Passing Metz Austrian Dominik Thiem – hot favorite – look to win his fifth title of the year – the first indoor – when confronted in the end with one of the players who are making waves in the circuit, Frenchman Lucas Pouille (3 ). Thiem defeated a former champion of the Open de Moselle, French local Gilles Simon in three sets 4-6 7-5 6-3 in two hours 17 minutes. Pouille to be fast becoming the French player most interesting time added his third victory in 2016 against Belgian David Goffin – Second seed – (before it did in Brisbane and the Masters Madrid ), this time 7-6 (6) 6-1.
