Eurobasket 2015: Spain wins the gold
Spanish proverb that says what starts badly wrong just not again fulfilled in the case of the Spanish basketball team. Sergio Scariolo’s team started the tournament losing to Serbia but has finished playing a final in which solvent has been imposed on Lithuania by 80-63 thus winning the gold again, this time against what they said many forecasts.
The resignations and low injury had made Spain came into the tournament with a lower level than other times team. However, the combined Scariolo has been growing game by game and in the end had a brilliant start in which has escaped on the scoreboard and a great defensive attitude that no approach has enabled Lithuania. Pau Gasol again be the leader of the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds and was named tournament MVP.
Spain made a great start to the game. Llull scored the first two baskets taking advantage of the Lithuanian defense on Pau Gasol closed. Mirotic and Rudy also joined the Spanish offensive success while Gasol getting intimidating on defense. Spain got his first break on the scoreboard putting the 11-4 but mostly filed a declaration of intent before a very lost Lithuania in the first quarter.
Kuzminkas tried to bring his own but Mirotic and Gasol cut all overtures until midway through the second quarter in which Lithuania lived his best moments . Kalnietis struck from Valanciunas triple and scored on Gasol won the game throughout the match and eventually eliminating faults. Seibutis also joined the Lithuanian Maciulis success and closed the quarter with a triple that put the 41-33 before the break. Lithuania was lively but Spain gave us peace with Gasol as the leader and many players contributing, from the most common to others that are less often as Victor Claver also gave good minutes.
The second part live with tranquility especially when compared with what was suffered in the semifinal against France. Ribas stole the first ball to crush and give more encouragement to the Spanish defense. The new Barca kept scoring player like Gasol and the Spanish difference went to 17 points (52-35). In the beginning of the last period Spain lived a slut in scoring but soon took points from the free throw and came signs that this match was not going to escape as a matte Claver after Pau Gasol assistance or a triple by Sergio Llull Table ruining any hopes of a comeback in Lithuania.
Gasol was named tournament MVP after averaging 25.6 points on average, 2.8 assists and 8.4 rebounds. The Bulls player accompanied the ideal fifth tournament and the Lithuanians Valanciunas Maciulis at De Colo and French Sergio Rodriguez has also signed a major championship.
