When flowing freshwater rivers facing the oceans, seas, bays or create large bodies of water with intermediate salinity. called brackish water, these areas often have a wide variety of fish and ample opportunities for fishermen. You can catch many fish brackish water, as it usually is, but try fishing bridges, using the tides and the water temperature to your advantage and learn from the local people to maximize their success.

Go with what works

Many of the most common game fish inhabit brackish waters. freshwater inhabitants, such as channel catfish, largemouth bass and catfish often coexist with saltwater species such as Bream, sea bass and Shad part of the year. In most cases the same techniques that work for the species in their native waters work when they move brackish areas. For example, low in brackish water still unstable sparks and strike plastic worms, while often favors low mullet heads, regardless of the salt content in the water.

Fish bridges

One of the most popular and effective for brackish water fishing methods is bridges. For fishing from a bridge, some bait shrimp lines in the water in the shade below. Use as much weight as needed to get your bait to the bottom, or may suspend the bait if the fish is keeping off the bottom. Live minnows are also effective when fished on a bridge, but must be careful not to let the entanglement itself while swimming.

Working tides

The tides affect the brackish water, and the wise fishermen capitalize on changing water levels. In general, the fish bites better as the tide approaches or departs. Fishing for maximum high tide or low tide minimum is not usually productive. Check local listings tide and focus their efforts.

Water Temperature Study

A major impetus influencing movement of fish is the water temperature. For the preferred temperature of its goal of variety of species, it is better predict their movements and behavior. For example, channel catfish prefer water between 82 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit and prevent water above that temperature. During the late summer, the shallower regions of water can overcome this, pushing the fish to deeper water – and therefore more salty.

Chat with the locals

As the brackish water areas are subject to strong seasonal variations, you can take a long time to learn the intricacies of the mouth of a river or estuary specific. Bass can move further downstream as spring rain lowered salinity sufficiently while sheepsheads may prefer a set of batteries covered bridge barnacles for all others. Your best option is to talk to local fishermen, guides and personal bait shop to find some of the best places and strategies for the area.
