Will Neymar Turn Old Trafford’s Bad Luck into Good Luck?
Manchester United has had a great start of the Premier League season, at least until its goalless draw with Newcastle. Last season they finished fourth, missing the qualification to the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Red Devils have performed well, but their performance was not enough for them to gain the desired reward – the champion title. But their bad luck might turn into good one with the acquisition of Brazilian superstar Neymar. And Old Trafford manager Luis Van Gaal is prepared to pay the price – it is rumored that Manchester United is willing to pay not less than £240 million to have the player among its own.
Brazilian news portal Globo.com was the first to report the possible transfer of the 23 year old player to Manchester United. It spoke of 760 million Reals (approximately £130-140 million), which grows to £165 million due to taxes and other fees. Add the £75 million the player himself will receive over the five year deal (£300,000 per week), and the amount grows to a staggering level of £240 million. But the right marketing strategy would help the acquisition pay for itself, the Red Devils believe.

According to The Sun, Neymar might actually not intend to leave Barcelona for the Manchester team. Rumor has it that he is only trying to work out a more lucrative deal with his current team, much like Sergio Ramos did in the past. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has recently claimed that Neymar is to sign a new deal with Barcelona, and use the interest of Manchester United to obtain more cash from the Camp Nou team. Balague claims that the deal is already set to be signed. In a tweet published a few days ago the expert claims Neymar not to have any intentions to leave his current team, despite the interest others are expressing toward him.
Neymar is a valuable player at Barca ever since he left Santos for it in 2013. In his 92 appearances at the club he scored 54 times, and he has become an integral part of the team’s “deadly front three”.
