2015 Spain GP F1: Nico Rosberg and Vettel beat Hamilton, Sainz in points
The arrival of Formula 1 to Europe has not altered the championship picture because many teams have improved … but Mercedes has also done. In the GP of Spain the German team has signed a double victory this time with Nico Rosberg in the first position in what is the first German victory so far this season.
Lewis Hamilton has had to settle for second place after a very interesting battle with Sebastian Vettel who was third. The Spanish top-ranked was Carlos Sainz provisional place on the 9th and the commissioners investigating one of his overtaking. Roberto Merhi finished last and Fernando Alonso abandoned due to problems in his McLaren-Honda.
Nico Rosberg was in search of a perfect weekend to give him strength to continue fighting for the drivers’ championship and Barcelona has found over 80,000 people watching live triumph. The German had a very comfortable ride since it went very well and in just a few laps already had more than two seconds ahead of his pursuers.
The difference grew, the steps along the pit lane were correct and if Hamilton wanted to attack in the final part of the race it was too late because Rosberg had much advantage so victory without too much emotion for the German who stands 20 points behind Hamilton in the championship.
Rosberg’s victory was aided by the poor start of Hamilton that he was overtaken by Sebastian Vettel who had to fight throughout the race. Carlos Sainz Jr. lost a position with Max Verstappen and soon showed that the grid positions of Toro Rosso they were somewhat unrealistic because in just a few laps lost positions with Grosjean, Raikkonen, Massa and Ricciardo who advanced them seamlessly taking advantage of the maximum speed of the Toro Rosso was very low. Meanwhile Alonso climbed a position and was running in 12th place with the aim of trying to get into the points.
As there was little fight for victory excitement focused on other battles like the one they kept Hamilton and Vettel for second place. The Ferrari was in the second position for many laps so Hamilton asked his team to change strategy to try to go three stops and beat him that way. The strategy worked out and Hamilton placed second with 14 laps to go in one phase of the race in which Vettel was running pretty slow.
Behind them there was also fighting between Bottas and Raikkonen. Ferrari was very close to Williams for many laps but could not overtake him. Felipe Massa, Daniel Ricciardo and Romain Grosjean were 6th, 7th and 8th and Carlos Sainz after them qualified. The Spanish lost many positions in the first part of the race but in the last three laps rose from position 11 to 9. First overtook Verstappen taking advantage of the DRS and little fresher tires Kvyat and then touched him and ordered him outside the path. Sainz used the escape and returned to the track in front of Kvyat, a move that is under investigation by the stewards to decide whether it is right or not action.
By then Fernando Alonso had already left by brake problems and Jenson Button had dropped many positions. The Spaniard said with a two-stop strategy could have chosen the 8 or 9 position but brake problems were so severe that he could hardly stop the car in the garage so he left and the first points will have to wait for more below.
As for Roberto Merhi, could finish another race but behind his teammate who overcame in the first round but had to let it go later by team orders that angered him since being the first folded pilot lost much time and I could not reach her companion on track.
With these results Nico Rosberg Hamilton approaches although English remains in first place in the championship with 111 points 91 and 80 of Vettel Rosberg. In the constructors’ championship is the lead for Mercedes with 202 points and 81 Ferrari 132 Williams.
