2015 Monaco Grand Prix F1: Nico Rosberg wins ahead of Vettel and Hamilton, point to Alonso Sainz and neglect
A Nico Rosberg is being given very well the GP of Monaco in recent years and this Sunday clinched his third consecutive victory at this track. The truth is that luck has been on the side of the German pilot that seemed to be second until a Mercedes error in managing a safety car threw away the good work that had Lewis Hamilton.
The Englishman walked quietly to another victory but a few laps the possible party became a big disappointment. Sebastian Vettel also took the gift of Mercedes was second. As for the Spanish riders Carlos Sainz was 10th with a great comeback, Roberto Merhi 16th ahead of his teammate and Fernando Alonso gave mechanical problems.
Lewis Hamilton used his pole to a very good start that allowed him to run away from problems and save the most difficult point of the race as in Monaco overtaking is very difficult. Rosberg remained with the second place and the third Vettel although in the first meters pilots attacked the Red Bull Ferrari that almost exceeds Kvyat. The Russian finally could not with him but at least ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo.
From behind Alonso but he played positions amounted to Nico Hulkenberg in a move that seemed a haul of race but ended with the German into the barriers. The commissioners understood they should punish the Spanish had to meet five seconds penalty. Carlos Sainz started from the pit lane and began the comeback that led him to the points helped by its strategy (came very early to avoid traffic) and dropouts. Merhi overtook Stevens and was able to pull ahead of him making it clear that his talent is at least on par with that of his teammate.
Overlap the race was stabilizing with Hamilton in front setting fast laps that allowed him to open a gap to Rosberg and Vettel. Red Bull pilots fought for the following positions with Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen continued to demonstrate good dose of talent that would add enough points pointed.
However, the own Verstappen was that the incident that changed the whole race. The Dutch had mounted tires supersoft for the last stint and was like a shot beating Sainz and Bottas. Grosjean was his next target but touched and ended up destroying his Toro Rosso and bringing out the safety car.
At this time many riders entered the box including Lewis Hamilton who was the leader but leaving behind Rosberg and Vettel so I very serious strategic failure of his team. The English tried to pressure the top two teams in the final laps but neither Nico Hulkenberg or Vettel failed and the positions did not change.
Fernando Alonso no longer came to live that time because he had to leave halfway through the race due to mechanical problems in his McLaren-Honda at this time failed him gearbox. At least there is a positive note on the Woking team in eighth place Jenson Button that adds the first two points of the year for the team. Button behind Felipe Nasr and Carlos Sainz who rallied to add one more point in his locker, a good haul considering classified started from the pit for his penalty on Saturday.
These results encourage the fight for the title because Hamilton still leads with 126 points but now has 116 Rosberg. Sebastian Vettel has 98 and Kimi Raikkonen 60 being 3rd and 4th with Ferrari are second in the constructors’ championship with 158 points 242 Mercedes.
