2015 Austrian GP Formula 1: Sebastian Vettel and Rosberg in front, Sainz 11th, trouble Alonso
Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel were the fastest in the first two practice sessions of the Grand Prix of Austria this weekend takes place at the Red Bull Ring. Lewis Hamilton has been more discreet and was fifth in the second session as the day has also been discreet for the Spanish riders Carlos Sainz 11th and problems of Fernando Alonso.
The Red Bull Ring is a circuit with long straights that should give you either the Mercedes engines and in which Renault will suffer more. In the first session Nico Rosberg edged by three tenths to Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen placed third to the problems of his teammate Sebastian Vettel. Ferrari’s Schumacher had mechanical problems that ruined his session but resurfaced in the second in which signed the best time.
Just the opposite happened to the Williams in the first round were among the best with Bottas in fourth place but fell to 14th and 15th position in the second. In the second session Vettel Rosberg could overtake the top spot by 11 thousandths.
Raikkonen and Maldonado also outscored Hamilton was 5th. The Red Bull is suffering at home with Kvyat Ricciardo 12th and 17th. At Toro Rosso fared better, especially Max Verstappen was 8th in both sessions. Carlos Sainz Jr. said he was not comfortable with the car and was 11th in both sessions.
Roberto Merhi was also overtaken by his teammate Will Stevens while Fernando Alonso lived another hard day in the middle of the problems that continue to affect McLaren-Honda. The car debuted Asturian power unit which already requires it to comply with 20 positions penalty or, which is the same in his situation, leaving last.
A Alonso did not care too much if the car improved in the first session but had to stop because of problems with a connection and the second by more mechanical problems as his teammate Jenson Button so the McLaren-Honda are still unknown when at this point it were expected to be at least getting points regularly.
